Why do our website prices look lower than other quotes you have had?
Published 5 July 2026 · 4 min read
Our founding rates start at £399 where many local quotes start at £1,500, and the honest reason is that the biggest cost in a typical web design invoice is missing from ours: overhead. There is no office, no account manager and no team to pay, and one person carries the whole build from first call to launch, so no hours are lost to handovers, meetings about meetings or project admin. That is a cheaper way to produce a website, and the saving is passed on rather than absorbed. This article walks through exactly where the money goes, so you can judge for yourself whether the lower number means lower value.
What a normal quote is actually paying for.
When an established agency quotes £3,000 to £8,000 for a small-business site, a large share of that covers the business around the build: premises, salaries, account management, sales time and project admin. None of that is dishonest, and for a large project with many stakeholders it earns its keep. But for a barber, a takeaway, a clinic or a trade, you are often paying for structure you will never touch. We wrote a full breakdown of the market bands in what a website really costs in the West Midlands; this post is about why ours sit below them.
How can one person produce agency-grade work?
Because most of what makes an agency slow is not the craft, it is the coordination. When a designer, a developer, a copywriter and an account manager each own a slice of your project, every handover costs hours and every hour lands on your invoice. Here one accountable person carries the design direction, the words, the structure, the speed budget and the accessibility checks from start to finish, with a build process refined to keep production hours low. Hand-coding helps too: no page-builder bloat means less to configure, less to patch and less to go wrong. The result is agency-grade output at a fraction of the production cost, and that is the honest core of our pricing, not a loss-leader and not a template with your logo dropped in.
Why are the first five clients cheaper still?
Our current rates are labelled founding client rates because they are exactly that. A young studio needs proof more than it needs margin: a named Google review and permission to publish a before and after case study are worth real money to us, so the first five clients get the work at £399, £549 or from £849 in exchange for exactly that. When the five slots are filled, prices rise for new clients. Founding clients keep their monthly care rate. There is no trick in it; it is the same trade early customers have always been offered, written down in public.
What is always included, and what genuinely costs extra.
Local SEO and Google Business setup are in every tier. We will not sell SEO back to you as an add-on, because a website that cannot be found is not finished. Shaping and polishing the content you give us is free too: if you send rough notes or an old brochure, turning that into site copy is part of the build.
The honest extra is copywriting from scratch. If you have nothing written at all, we interview you over one phone call and write every word of the site in your voice, at £35 a page. Standalone UK website copywriters commonly charge £200 to £500 a page for the same job, so we priced it where a small business can actually say yes, but it stays a separate line because it is genuinely separate work: interview time, drafting and revisions that not every project needs. The other extras, such as additional pages or a booking calendar, are each explained in plain English on the pricing page.
The monthly fee, and why it is small.
Every site carries a care plan from £35 a month, which covers hosting, security, backups and small content changes, with the monthly time allowance stated up front. Compare that with renting a DIY platform where the fee never ends and the site vanishes when you stop paying. With us, you own the site outright; the care plan just keeps it fast, safe and current.
Common questions.
Why are your prices lower than agency quotes?
No office, no account managers, and one accountable builder carrying the whole project without handover costs. The cost of making the site is lower, so the price is lower. The scope is not smaller.
Does a lower price mean a template?
No. Every build is hand-coded and designed around the specific business. No WordPress, no page builders, no plugin bloat.
What happens after the founding slots are filled?
Prices rise for new clients. Founding clients keep their care-plan rate for as long as they stay with us.
Is anything important sold as an add-on?
Not the essentials. SEO and Google Business setup are always included, and polishing your supplied content is free. From-scratch copywriting, extra pages and optional features are priced openly on the pricing page.
